The Power of Rejection

Being a Rhinestone Cowgirl is not for the faint of heart. This life is filled with rejection, but even when I want to give up, I just can’t. I’m simply not built to quit.

I haven’t written in this journal in months for many reasons, but the biggest one has been rejection. I’ve always preferred to keep things to myself rather than share my disappointments with the world. However, I’m starting to realize that it’s okay to share the bad along with the good. It’s what makes us human, and it never diminishes who we are or the talent God has given us to share with the world.

My latest rejection came from a contest I entered. I applied for an opportunity to open for the Mickey Guyton & Friends Holiday Tour at Zilkha Hall in Houston, Texas.

It would have been a full-circle moment for me because Mickey was the person who first showed me that someone like me could have a place and succeed in country music. As a proud Beaumont, Texas, native, this opportunity would have been especially meaningful because my family, many of whom have never seen me perform live, would finally have had the chance to see me onstage.

It would have been a powerful moment to celebrate how far I’ve come while sharing that milestone with the people and community who helped shape me.

Unfortunately, I didn't get that opportunity this year. But the great thing is, there's always next year!

I recently came across a girl on TikTok, Gabriella Carr (@gabbies1000nos), whose attitude inspired me to simply add this experience to my list of rejections, keep it moving, and go after the next opportunity like a true Rhinestone Cowgirl!

Alright, cowgirls, never forget that we're the sheriffs of our own lives. We are in control of what we keep in and what we let out. So polish your badge and NEVER let the fear of rejection keep you from sharing your gift with the world!
